Welcome to the Killarney Band Department Website!
A Few Reminders
Practicing:
~ Just like in any course, students are expected to do some work outside of class to prepare their band parts.
~ The easiest way to get a great mark in band is to practice regularly (only ten minutes a day) and be sure you know how to play your pieces.
~ Setting up a good practice space at home can help make practicing more enjoyable. Here are a couple ways to create a good practice space:
~ Find a nice quiet space.
~ Be sure to have a good supportive chair and preferably a music stand to put your music on.
~ Have a computer or cd player nearby to play with the CD, listen to recordings, practice with the metronome, etc.
~ Try to limit distractions such as cell phones, computers, etc.
~ Every musician, no matter what age or level needs to practice to improve their playing ability. The fastest way to find success on your instrument and enjoy playing music is to practice regularly.
~ If a student is unable to practice at home for whatever reason, please note that the band room is open before school, during noon hour, and after school so students can practice or receive help with their band parts.

Extra Help
~ It is completely normal for a student to have trouble with a certain part or section of a piece at some point during the year.
~ I am available to work with students one on one or in a small group before school, during noon hour, or after school.
~ A student can approach me anytime to ask questions or express the need for some extra help and we can set up a time to get together.

The goal of the band program is to develop individual and group musicianship skills through playing, performing, listening and valuing music. Playing in band develops leadership skills, social skills, determination and independence as well as many other life-long skills.
